| How Does the Society Help? |
The Society can help in a number of ways – by giving regular grants; providing essential items such as cookers, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, telephone rental, television licence fees, bed linen, household repairs. Interest-free loans are also granted in some cases.
| History |
The Society can trace its roots back to 1924 and although it is often thought that the “Welfare State” adequately provides for those in need, this has never really been the case. Social evolution also means that items that were once considered a luxury (telephone, televisions, refrigerators) are now regarded as essential for even a basic quality of life. More and more people own their own home, but find that in old age, they cannot afford to replace essential items, let alone maintain their property. So, the work of this Society grows.
